A Texas-based chain of giant gas stations seems to be making plans for its first Arizona location.

The Goodyear City Council on Monday approved rezoning a parcel of land near Bullard Avenue and Interstate 10 to make way for what could be the state’s first Buc-ee’s, the city said in a press release.

“I’m thrilled that Buc-ee’s is interested in Goodyear as a new location,” said Goodyear Mayor Joe Pizzillo. “It’s more than just a gas station or a convenience store. Buc-ee’s could provide our residents with what they’ve been asking for — which are more options — and that’s what they’ll get as our city continues to grow. It would be a popular stop for visitors in the Valley, including spring training fans.”

In an email to KJZZ News on Jan. 24 morning, Jeff Nadalo, general counsel for Buc-ee's Ltd., confirmed the company is considering the site for a new location.

"Buc-ee’s has not yet closed on property in Goodyear, Arizona. Buc-ee’s is considering building a store there and have land under contract," said Nadalo.

The Goodyear Planning and Zoning Commission approved a request to rezone 71 acres of land for a 75,000-square-foot-store — which would make it about 23% larger than a football field, according to the city. The site will also contain four other buildings totaling 519,000 square feet intended for industrial uses. Goodyear officials say the location would have 120 fueling stations and bring more than 200 full-time jobs to the area.

Buc-ee’s was founded in 1982 in Cleat, Texas, and has expanded throughout the southeastern U.S. The popular chain is known for clean bathrooms, large store sizes and huge selection of food and apparel, often featuring its Buc-ee the Beaver mascot.

The Goodyear location would be the first Buc-ee’s west of Texas.
