Gov. Katie Hobbs recently announced that she would limit the number of hires for various government positions.

Some started calling it a hiring freeze. But Hobbs says that’s not the case.

Hobbs is calling it a cap, not a freeze. Still, that language has some concerned including Arizona State Troopers Association president Jeffrey Hawkins. He recently said that the hiring freeze for DPS would be “catastrophic.”

Hobbs says that’s not happening.

“We have been discussing this with DPS. We want to ensure that this — that there’s — first of all, hiring freezes, layoffs, pay cuts, those are not on the table right now,” she said.

According to the governor, she needs to obtain information from the government agencies as her administration wrestles with a budget deficit.
