Arizona is offering a free, new way to file your taxes for the upcoming tax season. Officials anticipate that the Arizona Direct File program will make the process easier and safer for taxpayers.

This program is the result of a partnership between the Arizona Department of Revenue and Code For America.

It will allow Arizona residents to file both their federal and state taxes through the IRS Direct File program.

Rebecca Wilder from the ADOR says that Arizona jumped at the chance to participate in this pilot program alongside New York.

"Arizona raised our hand right away. Both the Arizona Department of Revenue and Gov. [Katie] Hobbs just thought, you know, we're always looking for ways to make it easier for taxpayers to file. It just makes sense to join on to a pilot program that's already happening," Wilder said.

This is the first year the program is being offered, and due to certain complexities in Arizona tax law, not everyone is eligible to file their state taxes through Direct File yet. To check your eligibility or for more information, visit Code For America's website.
