Flagstaff is known for freezing winters, which makes the challenge of being homeless even more difficult. Flagstaff Shelter Services’ Executive Director Ross Schaefer says city shelters can accommodate people who normally sleep outside.

"Generally speaking, we have enough room at the shelter, and if we need to move into an overflow opportunity, we will. We have the staff and we have the space to be able to do that," Schaefer said. 

Schaefer says that the low temperatures can be life-threatening and encouraged the community to call in if they see someone who needs assistance.

The shelter is accepting donations of warm winter clothes and financial help.
