Arizona Science Center breaks a few eggs — and another Guinness World Record
Arizona Science Center set an official Guinness World Record at the Arizona State Fair this year.
With the help of Arizona students, it broke the record for largest object drop inertia experiment on Oct. 19 at the fairgrounds. Inertia is a property of matter by which matter is at rest or in motion unless acted on by an external force.
Two-hundred-fifty eggs were set up for the attempt, and 155 of those eggs were safely dropped simultaneously into cups filled with water.
The previous record of 138 was set by Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest on a live broadcast of their TV show, “LIVE with Kelly and Ryan,” in 2019.
This isn't the Arizona Science Center's only Guinness World Record. It also holds the record for largest pair of scissors (10 feet long), set earlier this year.
“We are elated that Arizona Science Center has broken a second Guinness World Record,” Guy Labine, president and CEO of the Arizona Science Center, said in a press release on Thursday. “While our first record (creating the world's largest scissors) was an internal team effort, this attempt allowed us to invite members of the community to participate in this momentous occasion.”
The eggs used in the experiment were donated to Phoenix Rescue Mission’s Hope for Hunger Food Bank.
