The good news is, parts of the metro Phoenix area got significant rain overnight for the first time in months, up to a quarter to a full inch in some spots.

The bad news is, most of the region did not get wet. Mark O’Malley of the National Weather Service in Phoenix says it won’t affect the trajectory of extreme heat for now.

"That’s not gonna change that much of the impacts out there. Excessive heat warnings extend through Saturday. We’re still looking at afternoon high temperatures which will be flirting with 115 temperatures in large parts of the metro."

O’Malley says the airport didn’t receive any precipitation, so it’s still been since March 22nd, more than four months since the last official measurable rainfall in Phoenix. Temps though did fall below 90 this morning for the first time since July 10.
